Alex and James’ Almighty London Pub Crawl

2014 pub crawls

29th December 2014 - Round London Bridge and Borough

We had Fran and Dave with us for our yearly romp around Southwark. We met in the Globe for a few before heading off to the Rack where we met a guy sat at the bar with a load of cheese doing an impromptu beer and cheese pairing session. He had quite a big knife and a threatening manner so we ate the cheese and didn't question too much. From there we made it do a bunch of pubs that were open and five that were closed or gone.

4th December 2014 - Around Temple and The Strand

Just Alex and me this time. We started in The George near the Temple. From there we headed next door to Daly's Wine Bar that had beer on tap. We then found a bunch of pubs we did not know existed that were quite good. Devereux is right next to the Temple and the exteria has a whiff of that place Harry Potter goes shopping. The Temple Brew House was a microbrew pub and well worth a visit. From there we hit a bunch of places not worthy of mention. One thing to note is me hijacking a karaoke session in the Walkabout.

22nd November 2014 - round Brixton and CARTER!

Alex and I were off to see (probably) the last gig Carter USM played. We decided to get in a pub crawl before the gig which with hind sight was probably a terrible idea. We started in the Canterbury Arms where a load of other Carter fans were gathering (Dog T-shirts). From there we jaunted past another five pubs before the gig. We ended up at the after party in Brixton Jamm where Clinton USM did a set and I surprised everyone with a stage dive! I ached like hell the next day. Alex tells me he had a fat ear from getting booted by a stage diver in the Brixton Academy.

16th October 2014 - Round Pall Mall

I met Alex in the first of two Red Lions. Nice pub down an ally as all the best ones are. We headed east around Pall Mall then to Piccadilly and finally down towards Charing Cross. There was some confusion over the Old Shades as we were certain we were drinking outside it last time but did not have a record - hence the x

25th September 2014 - Belgravia part 3

Just Alex and I. We started at the Albert and decided to mop up the straggling pubs in this part of Belgravia and then head towards Westminster Bridge - Off the map! We relied on the mobile app which was alarming but worked. Somewhere around the Old Shades or Silver Cross we got talking to some people who recommended the Ship and Shovel to us. We also got in the Harp which was one of Alex's suggestions.

4th September 2014 - Belgravia part 2

I met Alex in the Windsor Castle and gave him the good/bad news that we had not realised that during the last pub crawl we had crossed the 500 pub mark! I later discovered that I had miss calculated and in fact we had only been to 495 pubs, making the White Swan (Young's) our 500th pub... This was also the first time we got to try out a mobile app that helps us keep track of pubs and edit them as we go.

25th June 2014 - Finishing NoHo

Alex and I covered pretty much all of NoHo finding the odd pubs we had missed here and there. This was quite tricky as we needed to avoid pubs we had already been in. We failed to do this in the Golden Eagle - only realising it was strangely familiar after we had bought pints... 20th February 2014 - Soho and Charing Cross Road

Alex and I started in the Tottenham which was surprsing considering the North London Derby that was on. This is also the only pub actually on Oxford St. We moved on to the very, very pink Royal George which apparently is not really a gay bar. From there we headed to the Pillars of Hercules which definitely is a gay bar and met up with Fran and RB. We stumbled into Montague Pyke which used to be the Moon Under Water (Still a Weatherspoons). We spent the rest of the night working down towards Cambridge Circus where we bumped into Sevda and ended in the Garrick Arms.
